Published Date: 27.01.2011

The Police Ombudsman's Office has appealed for an Armagh taxi driver, who was stopped by police while carrying a passenger in the early hours of 19 December last year, to contact its investigators.

The passenger was picked up by the female taxi driver at around 1.15am in the Scotch Street / Barrack Street area of the city. He was being pursued by several people at the time.

Police stopped the taxi a short time later, ordered the passenger out of the vehicle and asked him a number of questions. The taxi drove off and the police subsequently allowed the man to proceed on his way. He was assaulted a short time later.

Police Ombudsman investigators, who have received a complaint about the police handling of the incident, would like to hear from the taxi driver. She is asked to contact the Office's freephone witness appeal line on 0800 032 7880.
