Police Ombudsman investigates AEP discharges during Belfast riots

Published Date: 12.07.2010

The Police Ombudsman is investigating the discharge of a number of impact rounds by police during disturbances in Belfast overnight.

Officers discharged Attenuated Energy Projectile (AEP) rounds and used watercannon during clashes in the Broadway area of the city. There were also disturbances in the North Queen Street area, where police were attacked with live fire.

All discharges of police firearms, including AEPs, are automatically referred to the Police Ombudsman for independent investigation.
