No grounds to open investigation into discharge of firearms

Published Date: 5 June 2025

The Police Ombudsman has confirmed that there are no grounds to consider opening an investigation into a recent discharge of firearms by police officers.

In line with standard procedure, the PSNI notified the Police Ombudsman about the discharge of shots by police during an incident at High Street in Bangor on Sunday 18 June.

Having reviewed all the material, including the Body Worn Video of the officers, the Police Ombudsman has concluded that there is nothing to indicate that there are grounds to consider opening an investigation into the discharge of firearms by the police officers. It is now a matter for PSNI to review the response and consider if there is any organisational learning.
