Representatives from the Police Ombudsman’s Office were pleased to meet this week with members of the Policing Board’s Performance Committee to discuss our recent report about cases involving abuse of position for sexual purposes by police officers (APSP).
Chief Executive Hugh Hume and other Police Ombudsman staff presented the findings of the report and answered questions from members.
Potential next steps to support a system-wide response to the issues raised were also discussed.
Members were advised that the Police Ombudsman’s Office currently has 34 open cases involving APSP at various stages of investigation. These include some cases referenced in the report as well as cases received since 1 January 2025.
