Fatal collision at Glengormley, Police Ombudsman investigating

The Police Ombudsman's Office is investigating the circumstances of a fatal road collision which happened near Glengormley this morning. A man died when the car he was travelling in collided with a police vehicle shortly before 10am at Hightown Road.

It is understood police had been following the car prior to the collision.

All fatal road traffic collisions in which police have been involved are referred to the Police Ombudsman by the Chief Constable. A spokesman said the Police Ombudsman had mounted an independent, impartial investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened. He said the investigation would be evidence based: "Our investigators are at the scene, and forensic scientists and scenes of crime officers are being tasked to attend. "A family liaison officer will be appointed to support the man's family.

"We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened and would appeal for anyone with information to contact us 028 9082 8770."
