Moyard shooting: Police Ombudsman appeal

Published Date: 11.04.2005

The Police Ombudsman's Office has appealed for anyone with information about an incident in west Belfast on Sunday morning (10 April 2005), during which a police officer fired a shot at a vehicle, to contact them.

The incident happened at around 08:00hrs in the Moyard Parade area and involved a police Land Rover and a Daewoo Lanos.

It's believed that two police officers were struck by the Daewoo and that a police officer fired one shot at the vehicle. No one inside the Daewoo was injured.

Police had been at the scene following a disturbance in the area earlier that morning in which three people were injured, one of them critically.

All instances where a police weapon is fired are automatically referred to the Police Ombudsman's Office for investigation.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw what happened or has any additional information has been asked to contact Police Ombudsman investigators. Telephone number: 028 90 828 735.
