An independent investigation has been launched following allegations of sexual assault by a police officer on an adult male.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday 20 November) following the arrest of the man for disorderly behaviour and an assault on police. While in the custody suite the complainant alleges that he was sexually assaulted.

Police Ombudsman investigators are now in the process of gathering evidence, including viewing any available CCTV, liaising with a Forensic Medical Officer, and interviewing the complainant and the officers on duty at the time.
