The Police Ombudsman’s Office has begun an investigation after a shot was discharged by a police officer in the Donegall Road area of south Belfast this evening (Wed 6 Nov).

The incident happened after police stopped a vehicle. It is understood no one was injured by the shot. A number of people have been arrested. 

Police Ombudsman investigators have been tasked to the scene, which has been cordoned off for examination.

All discharges of police firearms in Northern Ireland are automatically referred by the Chief Constable to the Police Ombudsman’s Office for independent investigation.
