The Police Ombudsman's Research Unit publishes a variety of reports which cover various issues arising from the police complaints process. This work is in addition to the statistical data it provides and which you will find elsewhere on this website.
The Office has produced a number of leaflets to inform members of the public about certain aspects of the police complaints process. Among these are 2 leaflets on a mediation pilot project which is being run until February 2009.
As part of its commitment to equality of opportunity, and in line with its obligations under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, the Office has produced details about its complaints process in Mandarin, Irish and Ulster Scots. These details are also available on audio tape for those who have difficulty with their sight.
The Police Ombudsman's Office is obliged by law to produce an Annual Report, Corporate Plan and Accounts and have them 'laid' before Parliament.
Under Section 62 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 the Police Ombudsman's Office may publish reports following major investigations. Decisions as to when to publish such reports and what material to include in them are taken at the discretion of the Police Ombudsman.
As part of our commitment to openness the Office also publishes policies it has put in place in relation to a variety of issues, notably Equality and Freedom of Information.
