Investigation Reports
The final report into a public complaint is treated as confidential and goes to the complainant and the PSNI only. However, where a
complaint is judged to be of sufficient public concern a more substantial report will be produced and made public.
By law the Police Ombudsman is required to investigate all discharges of firearms by police officers, all fatal road traffic collisions
involving the police and all deaths which may have resulted from the actions of police officers. Reports on the outcomes of these
investigations are then sent to the Secretary of State, the Chief Constable and the Policing Board. A summary of these reports is
produced here.
