When a complaint is made to the Police Ombudsman's Office it is often necessary to ask the complainant for further details of the circumstances that gave rise to it.
In such cases we will write to the complainant asking him or her to contact the office within seven days to provide the necessary information. If there is no response to this letter, a second letter is sent by recorded delivery advising the complainant that unless a response is received the complaint will be closed due to non-cooperation.
If no response is received to this letter, the Police Ombudsman sends a further letter to confirm that the complaint has been closed.
Cases may also be closed for failure to co-operate at a later stage if the complainant withdraws from the process or fails to provide information required by the investigation.
